Black Muscat

This lovely wine by Baron Herzog/Kedem shouldn't be overlooked. It is sweet only to the degree that some dry Muscats are sweet. But what is Black Muscat?

'Wine Grapes' has it as Muscat of Hamburg. In our post on Schiava/Vernatsch we asserted that Muscat of Hamburg is Schiava but we discover that it is only in England that this is asserted.

In fact Black Muscat is the progeny of Schiava and Muscat of Alexandria.

Don't think Muscat Bleu has anything to do with Black Muscat though. As far as we can see, there is no Muscat in the ancestry of Muscat Bleu, only Villard Noir, Mueller-Thurgau, Seyve-Villard, Seibel and Subereux. Only!
